hey guys,
Removed tile and backer board in a new house in the kitchen.
I’m left with Thinset on the plywood subfloor.
I’ve scraped it as much as a can and it’s still there but very thin layer.

I’m installing laminate in the whole house and to match the level of the rest of the house so there are no transitions I need to lay 1/2 ply in the kitchen on top of the subfloor.
Will this be ok to just lay the plywood on top of this and use adhesive and screws?

Is plywood or osb better for this?

Thanks for the help.

Sorry, Thought we were dealing with concrete ..

Use 1/2" plywood .. Leave a 8th inch gap at the joints .. Nail the joints and edges every inch, and every 6" in the field ..

Ok thanks

Going over the Thinset with the plywood will not cause issues? Should I put adhesive down?

If the thinset isn't perfectly flat or you can't get it nice and smooth, it might be worth using a floor leveler/patching compound before adding the plywood.
Just sayin' you don't want to put the plywood over an uneven surface........ smooth out whatever thinset you can't get off so you are installing the plywood over a smooth surface without high spots or dips.

I don't think he's talking about 1/2" deep thinset Rusty. I was under the impression he's talking about very thin residue.
If he had Ernesto's buffer, that would be a better method.
