Our skies have just gone a strange colour and we are 2200ks away from Sydney

On the 8th March we are doing a cruise around the bottom of Australia
Hear on the news Eden, Phillip Island have been evacuated
The Island off Adelaide, Kangaroo Island has also been wiped out
Wonder what is going to happen with our cruise?
Could be lots of just looking from the ship as a lot of ports could be closed but it still beats laying floors
Feel sorry for all the people who have lost everything along with all the Koalas and other animals caught up in the fires

Been watching that on the news. Hard to believe so many are impacted. Once in a long while, we
have had fires lasting into winter, when rain finally finishes their destruction.
Looking at the photo imaged, it looks like the entire place is made up of large masses of dry trees. Add wind and dry trees and it isn't pretty.
My prayers aren't doing any good.

I heard they normally do controlled fires to get rid of a lot of the dry stuff, but there was a drought. A friend of mine over there recently got out of the hospital. He rushed over to a friend's farm to help save the animals and try to put out fires. Firemen wanted him to leave sooner but there were still animals trapped & he didn't want to leave them if they could still be saved. Got them all out but wound up in bad shape.
He said they had hoses & were spraying water to make the flames go down but even after dousing the fires, the eucalyptus trees were literally exploding. He said it sounded like continuous firecrackers for 60 seconds straight.
It's an awful situation. :-(

Rusty, that is absolutely tragic. I hope they catch the arsonists and prosecute them to the full extent of the law.

They have some of the same problems as California. Environmental groups keep them from clearing brush and put out small natural fires. So when a fire starts it has a lot of fuel.
