Got 9 workbenches that are getting birch butcher block tops and bottoms. Gonna finish them with some Rubio mono coat. One of them is warped so it will be getting exchanged.
. Nice ! Explain the process Incognito, if you don’t mind. I’m assuming the labor is from a playground specialty contractor, probably out of town ? Ready for the kiddies

Spent two days cutting and sanding butcher block tops. I’m all excited to finally tack some tops and start spreading some finish.
The Rubio was not the look they were after. No biggie. We do a test piece on some of the fall off and try mineral oil with a wax popper at the end. Not bad but they wanted a little more durability so Waterlox ended up winning in the end. Don’t matter to me as long as the boss and the customer are happy.
Got a first coat on 5 benches as well as installed some wheels on the base. Tomorrow is another day.

Daughter and grandson showed up this evening and loaded my trailer with brush for me. 11 year old grandson was picking up 50 lb logs and tossing them onto the trailer. Never knew he was that strong.

No exciting weather here. The weather has finally gotten somewhat normal. Just a few months ago we were 30 inches below normal for the rain year and now we're 10 in below. Last summer a lot of people on wells ran out of water because it was so dry last year. Nobody's complaining about all the rain we had this year.....
...except me because I'm not on well.
. We've been colder than normal by 5 even 10 degrees up until just week and a half ago. Was getting tired of all the rain plus the 36° to 38° temperatures in the morning. We should be closer to 45. Same thing with the daytime highs they've been below normal too. I think that's the reason cooler than normal is also climate change.
...except me because I'm not on well.

The substrate is either concrete or Class #2 base. On top of that is a "basemat" product that's essentially rubber strands mixed into urethane and troweled out off 1 1/2" screed rods. This is the padding for both turf and rubber. The rubber topcoat is similarly mixed with urethane but rather than chopped up hairy black tire threads it's a custom manufacturer, colored granule. The application of the topcoat is similar to the basemat excepting the fine/smoother surface. I'll post a few finished shots later. I'm over here painting, cleaning the site and running Super/QC and Safety reports up the wazoo. 23 working days left before my pension check kicks in. I'm going out with a bang.. Nice ! Ugh, did a miniature golf course once. What a PITA.
You wouldn't want to be doing those anywhere near regular piece work rates. The turf they're putting in is as good as it gets...........according to them. Sure looks like grass and it's super luxurious.

We did ours in the middle of summer. The turf was so hot, you could not kneel on it. We had these wooden things that kept up up just off the turf. It was still miserable.
Butcherblock looks good! So does the rubber/faux grass flooring.
My brain isn't fully working. Took older dogs to the vet on Tuesday. Yesterday was Mom's eye doctor appointment. I put $50 of gas in my friend's car for him bc he didn't have enough to get to work before his paycheck lands. Mom gave him some spending cash to get an oil change (we had frozen stuff in the cooler & couldn't wait for them to do the oil change) and he gave us both hugs.
I took the puppies for a walk today. I walk in the shade of some trees but the puppies decided it was too hot and went inside long before I did. I petted my cow and sang her favorite lullaby to her for several minutes before going in. I don't do well with the heat.
After yesterday's adventures I went to sleep before 6pm and didn't get up until around 2pm today. Having fatigue sucks.
Any tips on finding appliance repair people? I think the compressor is giving up the ghost in my upright freezer. Making awful noises and not cooling properly. I need it fixed bc they don't sell ones that big anymore for under $5k. It's a Frigidaire model. I think we bought it at Sears 20+ years ago.
Rusty, I hope you'll be able to get well enough to not need infusions anymore.

So I believe the technology has improved greatly..........at the HIGH END as far as the heat. My neighbor bought the cheap crap and you cant sit out there on his lawn on a hot SoCal day.
I got lucky and found a really good guy on Craigslist for my Mother in law's dryer. $75 all in for the repair including parts. She was going to buy a used one in the $3-400 range. So that was a score and I'm the hero for a hot NYC minute.
Fridges and freezers are going to be WAY more complicated. Still, you NEED a good, local appliance repair guy who wont gouge you. Otherwise, in the long run you will be best off using the home warranty rackets. I think we pay $39 a month to cover all the appliances and if they should come out it's $75 just to look at the issue. They have to fix whatever problem for the $75.
