My tennis buddy just ran across this book based about a Rug Man ! 😎 and he said, hey Mike, try not to cry 🥲 but I did 🥴

‘The Moby Dick of carpeting’: Delco author pens novel about his working-class father

I’ll try to post the whyy article.

He’s from my area, ( 70 min. Away ) I don’t know him, but we worked for some of the same high end customers 😎 and we share similar family business war stories, just like most of us here on FF 😎😎
Hey boys and girls WE HAVE SOME EXPOSURE NOW ! Super cool !

https://whyy.org/articles/david-amadio-comic-book-rug-man/
It can be ordered on ‘Paul Dry Books ‘

I love it! Definitely gonna buy it.

On a related note I’ve often thought they should have a series called ‘The Installers’. You know all the crazy stuff we’ve dealt with is worthy of a little air time.

I paid $19.35 with shipping and tax…😫

Sounds about right with tax.

I clicked the buy now button and was blasted with sign up for Prime and get free shipping blah blah, free trial period blah blah. Clicked through that then was hit with shipping options. Free is a week out, tomorrow is $9.99 and it’s $6.99 for a couple days. Now I’m kinda irked cus shipping is free with Prime but I don’t have Prime and signing up for prime to get free shipping will actually cost me more than just paying for the shipping in the first place. This is BS. I can’t be making these kinds of decisions now that I’m peeved. I need help. I sent my wife a link and had her order it for me cus she already has Prime. The link I sent her said $17.95😁

Of all the things I refuse to spend $15 on, Amazon Prime is it.

I bought it yesterday from Paul Dry Books… Today it’s 20% off… $14.95 plus…

And yea, I don’t like paying for Prime either but I do because it seems these days it’s almost a necessity to use Amazon… 😪

Wouldn’t make sense for both you and your wife to pay for Prime, share the account with as many people as you can…

You can buy two items in the next year and save 15 bucks.
I let my prime run out. Monday, I made two purchases. A new temperature gauge and a temperature sensor housing that you insert into the upper radiator hose.
Everywhere I looked, it was $50 to $55 with free shipping.
Amazon had one for $37. I clicked on the "buy now" and didn't check out it showed $42..... There was is a mention of minimum or some sort of requirement. I looked all over for it and couldn't find what they were referring to.
I went back to the checkout page and scrolled down a little bit and Amazon had pre-checked the two day delivery. I unchecked it and my price went back to $37. I had no problem waiting 7 days.
Guess what it showed up in my mailbox yesterday, Wednesday.
I ordered it Monday, so I even got my 2-day shipping free 😁

Waiting for me at my door when I got home.

Picked it up and popped off 10 pages real quick. Gotta do dinner with the old man in a few but I’ll have my nose back in this book again later on tonight.

We always joked about writing books about crap we run into and characters we meet especially in the 80s and 90s life on The road as commercial installer.it was like being in a band...good Ole bad days🤪🤪🤪

....then there was the time I folded back the pad I was removing....
....and there was a 5 foot long, 3/8" wide gap in the fir flooring.
.......filled end to end with honey bees.
.....I layed the pad back down on the floor and pondered my next move. 🤔
Hey, the sun was out. It was a nice spring day.
....yeah, I went home. I have my limits. 😁
.....oh, and the bee keeper thanked the homeowners and gave them the #20 of honey.
Yup, we all have a few memorable ones.

Flooring installers are not the only ones with weird customer stories. Maybe a book called The Installers would have a larger market if it crossed trades.
The drapery & blind (+) installation business was full of hang ups.
Yep, lots of stories. Wish I could remember some.
The worst part about hanging mirrors was what I had to look at.

I would not like that job either. 😁

Well I just got around to reading it... Good read if you an old carpet layer (like me). I could relate to a lot of it as I started my career working with decorators and handmade rugs just like the main character (I later evolved into commercial work). I’ve been on hundreds of jobs like the one this guy described. I gotta say though, I’m not sure if anyone other than an old carpet layer would appreciate it much. Might be considered a little boring. 😎

One issue, no mention of a power stretcher, that kinda bugged me…🤓
