I’m trying to get My mechanic sub. To use the Polish wall trimmer, because it prevents the dreaded scoring marks on the baseboards. The video would not load 😢

You have never used your spreader for trimming. It works great. I don't do complete walls like in the pictures but use it if the carpet is a scoosh long to tuck in smoothly. I've done it for years and even taught it at certifications. No marks on the baseboard are allowed. Try it sometime you will like it.

Is that glue direct? If stretch-in, why not just use a trimmer?
That’s Stretch-in …. I was never exposed to a wall trimmer as an apprentice. My father and cousins taught me how to pull-cut for tackless and crease / cut for direct glue down. I’ve used wall trimmers in the past, but I just prefer using the knife by pull-cutting , back - cutting or using the spreader as the Polish wall trimmer 😜

My subcontractor knows how to pull cut, but he’s been cutting tackless as if it’s glue down 😡 So I’m trying to mentor a different way to him that doesn’t expose a score mark onto the wood base.

Grandpa had a bunch of 3" Formica strips to to that with. They were also used to protect the baseboards from the foot of the trimmer.
I've gone as far as stacking 3 old drywall knives in succession to make a longer cut in one swipe doing what you are doing there. I like that method.

Grandpa was an installer and I heard dad was for about 6 months, but he got smart. 😁
That was before my time or barely after.
So yeah and some small way I'm sort of third generation. 😁

And I have scored through a drywall knife enough times that it snapped off. Not a big deal because I don't do it all the time and of course I don't do all that much installation anymore.
If something's only a half inch or 3/4 inch up the wall for some reason, a trimmer just doesn't work, but this method does.
Ha! I just zoomed in on the spreader. It looks like some bleached out cedar fencing. 😁
