Large floor plan - suggested starting point / layout?

I think I see what you're getting at. Though this is a floating floor, this SPC is insanely heavy. Combined with the grippy attached pad once you've got a few dozen sq ft down this stuff is near impossible to shimmy around... In my case (ref floor plan on page 1) I have little choice but to...

Large floor plan - suggested starting point / layout?

Fair enough - either way you all have done this enough times to know what's important to focus on and what else to leave to figure after the cards fall. We're well on our way, and it's going as expected. One question I have - what are the chances that the flooring coming from the kitchen into...

Large floor plan - suggested starting point / layout?

I have absolutely no idea how you guys do this by hand. My wife didn't understand what I meant when I said I was "cheating" by using CAD... And of course like everything else, it can look good on paper... Tolerance stackup is a real you know what. Excited to have this done in time for...

Large floor plan - suggested starting point / layout?

Small update - patching the uneven OSB edges took longer than expected... what a PITA. To add insult to injury the OSB from the lumber supplier was the worst - LOWE's was actually all even at factory edges. Anyway we spent some time getting our reference lines lasered, and measured everything...

Large floor plan - suggested starting point / layout?

Agreed - as mentioned the board movement shown is really the plank "flattening" to the level of the padding, so it's not a fair representation to view deflection at the end. But the fact that the plank compressed the padding at all to see movement was enough for us.

Large floor plan - suggested starting point / layout?

Follow-up question - if I were to scab my first course down, either with scrap or some 1x, and build out, all good. But how does one go about laying the floor 'backwards' from there? I'd be looking at a good 12' worth of rows, and ~500sq ft to lay backwards.

Large floor plan - suggested starting point / layout?

Well folks as they say proof is in the pudding. I cut a strip of the underlayment and put it beneath a plank, beside a plank without. I'm pushing 300+ lbs and it was immediately obvious how much more give the floor had with the underlayment. She weighs about 1/2 of me and it still moved about...

Large floor plan - suggested starting point / layout?

Well I won't go down the road of personal weights here 😆 but I do recognize there are situations such as rolling loads that can exaggerate a non-ideal install situation. Side note I installed laminate in my last home about ten years ago and was amazed how much the industry had shifted away from...

Large floor plan - suggested starting point / layout?

Mark (first off fair enough, I wouldn't ask someone to put their name on the line for something they don't have experience with). Considering I've already opened a roll (so it's not returnable) I'd be willing to send you a slice if you'd like. Just throwing it out there... no obligation, I'm...

Large floor plan - suggested starting point / layout?

Comparing the two materials listed, it's a bit tough to compare their compression specs, given they are listed at different percentages. I imagine this is the main factor in deciding if an underlayment is appropriate enough (density may correlate to compression, but ultimately for sake of floor...

Large floor plan - suggested starting point / layout?

Homeowner here. I'll admit I am a bit biased in my opinion because I had already purchased three rolls of the QuietWalk prior to my post. However not so invested that I'm not willing to take a slight loss on selling it if it means compromising my floor. $300 for the otherwise *chance* that it'll...

Large floor plan - suggested starting point / layout?

So as a follow-up, LL tech support did return my call. They did not expressly prohibit the QuietWalk, but instead they recommended their EcoSilent HD. Spec's below for discussion: QuietWalk: Thickness: 1.4mm (0.055") Density: 18.28 lbs/cu ft Compression Res (@50%): 64.58psi...

Large floor plan - suggested starting point / layout?

As a consumer I've had to make a decision by wading through various opinions on this matter. Let me start by saying I have no illusions about warranty - manufactures will use any tactic necessary to get out of a warranty claim and I've been told (successful) LVP/RVP warranty claims are few and...

Large floor plan - suggested starting point / layout?

Continuing the fridge thought - I may consider just layering up some roofing felt in the square areas the fridge and range will sit, to match the nominal height of the underlayment, to offer less "give" long term. Thoughts? For the stove I could probably hide a transition/end the flooring just...

Large floor plan - suggested starting point / layout?

The padding on this CoreLux is nothing much to write home about, and due to the open foyer (to 2nd floor bedrooms) wanted to help deaden sound as much as possible. My only concern is (planned) gas range and fridge sitting on floor. Not so much for expansion but compressing the underlayment and...
