New Laminate floor tearing

Hello I am new to this forum and I am not entirely sure I am posting this thread in the correct forum.
My parents had laminate flooring in their kitchen for 17 years. It has held up fairly well and didnt have much damage to it during this time but recently they decided it was time for a new floor. They had a professional floor company come and install a new laminate. I believe they left the old flooring and just installed the new flooring on top of it. In less than a month of light usage, the floor now has significant tearing in some spots, specifically around where the wheels of the kitchen chairs go. My parents do not use these chairs often, and do not roll around or move around on them alot when they do use them. They did not have this problem after 17 years of their previous laminate floor. Also I think they contacted the company that sold and installed the floor and they said their warranty wont cover repairs due to furniture and chairs.
Is this kind of damage normal in modern laminate flooring? Could it just be the type of specific floor they bought and maybe with a different type of laminate this would not be a problem? Is there anything that can be done to fix or prevent this issue?
It was very alarming to me to see this damage in less than a month.

If they installed new laminate over old that as wrong. But, almost all flooring will not cover damage due to chairs with casters.

OK thank you for the reply. I understand that they are not covered for the damage from the chairs. What I am wondering is would you say it is normal to have this type of damage to brand new floor within the first month, and if there is a way to fix it and prevent it from happening in the future, and why might this happening when their previous laminate floor held up to wear and tear for 17 years?

Contact the manufacturer and see if they will warranty it for the peeling. do you know the brand?

wpascarelli, is it possible you are confusing the term linoleum with laminate? Ive never seen a laminate (pergo) floor tear but I have seen a linoleum (or most likely vinyl) floor tear.

No it's not "normal" but they still won't warranty rolling traffic with hard castors especially. Office chairs with hard plastic castors are the worst. The point load (depending on your weight) is absolutely horrific!
