It's not going to do anything to your confuser ..
How you making out with the laptop ?

Laptop works, but asks me to update every chance it gets.......... then tells me it can't update.
....asks me again to update .......... then tells me it can't update ....asks me again to update .......... then tells me it can't update ....asks me again to update .......... then tells me it can't update ....asks me again to update .......... then tells me it can't update ....asks me again to update .......... then tells me it can't update.
So nice that it cares so much about me.
The browser sucks. Not sure what happens if I switch to another. I downloaded chrome but haven't set it up. I suppose if I open the chrome folder, I need to be connected to a high speed connection? (and not my dialup)
I'm also not sure if Firefox would be a better choice. I like it and it's pretty much all Ive ever used.

I opened "all apps" scrolled down to Windows 10 update assistant.
Inside was Windows 10 upgrader. It asked Do you want this app to make changes to your PC.. I set it from yes to no............ we'll see what happens.

Thought it was XP..

Via Control Panel > Administrative Tools, you can access Windows Services Manager. In the Services window, scroll down to Windows Update and turn off the Service. To turn it off, right-click on the process, click on Properties and select Disabled

I have it disabled now. Thanks.

My bad for confuzing you. I was thinking the newer HP notebook pain in the ass. You were thinking the older XP laptop pain in the ass that my friend gave me.
Been using the newer 14" 2015 HP notebook off and on recently so that was on my mind when you asked. The upgrade assistant can't remember I don't have space to update/upgrade, so it keeps asking. I'll have to wait to see if the fix shuts this sucker up. I won't know until I take it to town to get a good WIFI signal.

LOL ! I never know what confuser you are on .. LOL

Use the win 10, Put the other two on E Bay ..Hee Hee..

I hate laptops, ...their screens, ...the fact that the screen is connected to the laptop ....and W10.
I'd like a new HD for the PC and install 7 or XP on it so I can use it with Photoshop. I have a cordless keyboard that resides on my lap and the screen stays where I like it........ on the desks top ....where it should be :D

How to Set Upload and Download Limits for Windows 10 Updates

Windows 10 cumulative updates can be quite large and the bi-annual feature updates (like the recent April 2018 Update) are often GBs in size. If you’re on a low-bandwidth connection with several connected devices, you should consider limiting the amount of bandwidth used for Windows Updates. Luckily you can manage the amount of bandwidth the updates use. However, this helpful feature is buried deep in settings, but here we’ll show you how to find and manage it.

Set Bandwidth Limits for Windows 10 Updates
Head to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Advanced Options and scroll down and click on Delivery Optimization and on the next screen click the Advanced Options link – told you it is buried deep.

Now you’re in the section that matters. You have options to limit the bandwidth used for uploads and downloads. Just check the item you want to limit bandwidth for and use the slider to adjust the percentage it uses. You can limit the amount of upload bandwidth used for other PCs and set a monthly upload limit.

Microsoft did introduce new delivery optimization settings starting with Windows 10 1709, but it only allowed throttling background downloads. Now, with Windows 10 1803, you can throttle the foreground downloads, too. The foreground updates are the updates you start manually – you head to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update. Or, if you’re downloading an app from the Windows Store, that’s also considered a foreground update. The background updates are the sneakier ones that happen automatically without any interaction on your part. Having your PC set to automatically check for updates is an example of a background update.

This is quite handy for people in rural areas who have a slow or limited internet connection and the household is busy with several connected devices. For example, you don’t need Windows update hogging all the bandwidth while you’re trying to watch a movie on Netflix and your kid is gaming online in the other room.

In fact, I have had first-hand experience with this as I live in a rural area and for a while could only get a slow DSL connection. I have several Windows 10 devices and I had a new one I was testing an Insider build on. It started downloading it and my entire network slowed to a crawl. The Windows 10 update was taking up all the bandwidth. Once I throttled things down in optimization settings, everything was working again. Sure, it took longer to get that new Insider build, but I was able to get my work done and enjoy Star Trek playing in the background.

I'd just like to turn the updates off completely since there is zero room on my notebook to do any updates. It asks to update every time I start the confuzer. ...........then it tells me I don't have enough room. I have no way to make room for these updates since the HD is only 32GB and it's almost totally the HP program and Windows 10.

Use msconfig to remove the program from startup and to disable the service from running.
Click on the "Start" button and select "Run" and type msconfig in the field where it says Open and click the "OK" button.,
Select the Startup tab, uncheck HP Updates and click the "Apply" button..

It may not Hi, You might have to --
Press the Windows logo key + R then type gpedit.msc and click OK..
Go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components >Windows Update. Select Disabled in Configured Automatic Updates on the left, and click Apply and OK to disable the Windows automatic updatefeature.

How to Disable Automatic Updates for Windows 10 Store Apps
Windows 10 is set to update automatically, but it does offer several ways for you to control the way your PC gets system and feature updates. We have shown you how to disable or delay automatic Windows 10 system updates. This comes in handy if you want to hold off on a feature updateor are on metered connection and want to wait until you’re connected to Wi-Fi or Ethernet. We have also shown you how to set upload and download limits for system updates to save on bandwidth.

You should also know that by default, Windows Store apps are set to update automatically. This includes native Microsoft apps like Mail & Calendar, News, and Sports. It also holds true for any apps or games you download from the Microsoft Store. Depending on the app – games in particular – the updates can be quite large. If you have limited bandwidth or are on a metered connection you might want to turn the updates off. Whatever the reason, you can disable automatic Store app updates, too. Here’s how.

Disable Auto Updates for Store Apps
Launch the Microsoft Store app and click Options button () in the upper-right corner and choose Settings.

Then on the following screen, turn off the “Update apps automatically” switch in the App Updates section.

Now, to get updates, you will need to manually update them. You can do that by clicking the Options button () in the upper-right corner and choose Downloads and updates from the menu and then the “Get updates” button. You will get a list of apps with available updates and you can update them individually or all of them at once.

It’s also worth noting that if you have set up your system as a metered connection to disable system updates, it will also stop Store apps from updating. In general, you want to keep everything up-to-date on your system. Microsoft is trying to make it easier for you by having your core OS and apps update automatically in the background. Still, it’s good to know that the company is giving you control to either turn off updates or delay them for a time that’s more convenient.

When it comes to Windows Store apps, it’s also worth reminding that Microsoft now allows you to install them on multiple PCs at once.

Microsoft today rolled out a new cumulative update for Windows 10 1803 and all other currently supported versions of Windows for July’s Patch Tuesday.

COMMENTS

It’s Patch Tuesday and Microsoft today is rolling out cumulative update KB4338819 for Windows 10 1803 April Update. There are no new updates to report but it does include security patches and other system improvements. It will also bump your build number to 17134.165. Here is a look at what you can expect with today’s update for Windows 10 1803.

Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB4338819
Here’s the list of fixes and improvements included in this latest patch for Windows 10 1803:

  • Improves the ability of the Universal CRT Ctype family of functions to correctly handle EOF as valid input.
  • Enables debugging of WebView content in UWP apps using the Microsoft Edge DevTools Preview app that’s available in the Microsoft Store.
  • Addresses an issue that may cause the Mitigation Options Group Policy client-side extension to fail during GPO processing. The error message is “Windows failed to apply the MitigationOptions settings. MitigationOptions settings might have its own log file” or “ProcessGPOList: Extension MitigationOptions returned 0xea.” This issue occurs when Mitigation Options has been defined either manually or by Group Policy on a machine using Windows Defender Security Center or the PowerShell Set-ProcessMitigation cmdlet.
  • Evaluates the Windows ecosystem to help ensure application and device compatibility for all updates to Windows.
  • Security updates to Internet Explorer, Windows apps, Windows graphics, Windows datacenter networking, Windows wireless networking, Windows virtualization, Windows kernel, and Windows Server.
You should get this update automatically over the next couple days, or, if you want to stay on top of things, head to Settings > Update & security > Windows update or manually download KB4338819 here. After restarting your system, hit the Windows key and type: winver and hit Enter. You will see your version has been bumped to Build 17134.165.

Note that if you’re still holding off on updating to the April 2018 Update, there is new cumulative update KB4338825 for version 1709 that you can manually download here. Of course, since it’s Patch Tuesday, all other supported versions of Windows and Server received updates today, too.
