Hello,

I had a home retiled, and I am not pleased with the output. They damaged old tile (which is staying) in a location that enters the newly tiled rooms. There are no transitions, just two totally different tiles butting up to eachother, and my black grout looks gray.

The guys knocked out the baseboard, but says installing new baseboard or putting back on the old baseboard is not their job? How is that?

At least they installed it right, your not supposed to set tile to vertical surfaces, at least not without using grout caulk but guys always do around here. And I always give people the option of reinstalling themselves or have me do it. They should have at least noted it in the quote. I'd make them fix it all.

Thank you! Would it be customary to at least patch up the drywall that was damaged during baseboard removal, or not in their field?

It is their responsibility.. If they can't do it a Judge would make them pay a contractor to do it ..

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I just wish to clarify with photos, so its a little more clear for you. Thank you

Baseboards can be taken off with no or maybe minimal damage. If it was nailed with large nails or over nailed and is stubborn to come off, the nails can be set deep with a punch before removing the base.
Holes in the drywall from a pry bar are preventable, so that shouldn't happen.
It should have been discussed by the installers before they started. They knew that they weren't putting it back on, and you had no idea they weren't. Installers aren't usually going to repaint the base, but they ought to put it back on in a decent fashion and in about the same condition as it was before removal.

Looks like the wall has been wet. That would make the drywall crumble or come apart when the base was removed. I wouldn't blame the workers for that part. I see what looks like a place where the pry bar did some damage. Will the base cover that?

I agree with High, typical damage taking off base and does look like it has had moisture damage. You will never see it as the base is fastened into the floor plate mainly. Unless it gets pulled down into a gap when fastening. I just threw some joint compound into a wall like that this week because I figured it wouldn't look good when I shot it up. Thats just me though.

We don't remove baseboards , we just use quarter round for situations needing it like this.

and the doorway look good to me, a marble threshold could have been used if wanted and should have been discussed before installation.

That being said I normally only use marble thresholds at bath doors
