Judge Judy reminds me of a real judge. Some of her decisions make no sense at all.
The scary thing is, she was actually a judge in family court. She made life-altering decisions & ruined some lives.
I like Judge Milian. She used to be a prosecutor and she's married to a cop. I also like Judge Alex, who used to be a cop (I still remember the time he spent several minutes explaining exactly how to balance a checkbook to some jerk who was trying to stiff his ex on child support by voiding the checks after sending them to her). Mathis is a clown, but he's entertaining-- and I think more reasonable than Judy most of the time.
When my elderly friend, Cordell, was still alive we used to go over and have coffee (well, my mother had coffee, I would have water) and watch the judge shows with him. I still remember his face the time they had a plaintiff in the courtroom who looked like she only weighed 100lbs soaking wet & when she was asked what her profession was, she said roofing and drywall installation. On a commercial break, Cordell said something along the lines of "That little girl does roofing and drywall? Golleeeee" (sort of like how Andy Taylor would say it).

A little old lady went to buy cat food. She picked up three cans, but was told by the clerk, "I'm sorry, but we can't sell this to you without proof you have a ...cat. Too many seniors are buying cat foot to eat. Management wants proof that you are buying this for your cat." So the lady went home, brought in her cat and was sold the cat food. . . . The next day, she tried to buy two cans of dog food and was again told she couldn't buy them without proof. So the lady went home, brought in her dog and was sold the dog food. . . .One day later, she brought in a box with a hole in the lid and asked the cashier to stick her finger in the hole. The cashier said, "No, you might have a snake in there." The lady assured her that there was nothing in the box that would harm her. So the cashier put her finger into the box, quickly pulled it out and exclaimed, "That smells like crap." . . . The lady replied, "It is. I want to buy two rolls of toilet paper."

Highup, from what I understand the shows pay for the people to fly out there, pay for their meals & hotels, and I'm not sure how much they get paid, but they do get paid to be there. It's not very much from what I'm told. There were some people who completely made up a fake case to get on Judge Judy before.

As for the getting to school, I saw some documentary on TV about some family that lived up in the mountains in another country. In order to get the kids to school, they had about a 2 week trek across perilous terrain to get to the boarding school. The father would lead the kids, help them across ledges, etc. Once he got them there safely he would make the two week trek back home. When it was time for school to end, he would trek back & then lead the kids back home across the same terrain. If the snow slid or if they slipped on ice, they could have fallen to their deaths.

I always wonder how much each got paid to be there. There's some sort of pay scale for appearing on TV.
On people's court there is a $5000. pot. If you win say $1000, you get that and 1/2 the $4000 that is left. So the loser of the case would get $2000. the winner $3000. And the show pays airfare, room and meals. But according to some who have been on there, the judge has her mind made up before the show and only the testimony that agrees with her is shown.

Dr. Phil is a real dirtbag. He has his staff lie about people & misrepresent what is going on, and he even has them unlawfully detain people. I've seen a few times where someone tried to walk off and later on they come back on stage and he chastises them & they have commented that they only came back because his staff wouldn't let them leave. But he said that wasn't true and that the staff weren't doing that. He even threatened to call the cops on people and have them arrested if they tried to leave.

They had an actor from Buffy the Vampire Slayer on the show & Dr. Phil was a complete jerk to him. He didn't take him seriously & the show edited the footage to make it look like he walked off and left because he was asked about his alcohol use. The actor angrily blogged about it later & said that they cut the part where Dr. Phil was being a total dick to the actor's mother & *that* was the reason he walked off the stage. He also confirmed what others have said- that they would not let him leave. They sort of told on themselves by filming him trying to leave the building & they kept blocking him & stopping him. They cut out some of the parts & made a big deal about him having changed clothes (he said when he first tried to leave they told him he wasn't allowed to leave with the clothes they let him wear for the show, so he changed in to something else, gave their clothes back, and tried to leave but that they kept blocking his path and holding doors shut). He eventually made it outside & they continued to follow and film him. One of the producers or staff got him to sit down in a diner to talk & claimed he said some things that he later denied. There was no footage of it so I think the show was lying.

Awhile later, the actor sat on a curb in public and slashed his wrist. He survived though, but he was dumb enough to go back on Dr. Phil (who- after getting a lot of negative feedback from fans) was much nicer. But he's still a creep & an egotistical jerk. My mother likes to watch his show.

On the judge shows, if the show pays them $ but they are told they won, do they still get the full amount they were awarded in the lawsuit? Or do they have to take a loss?

They can get up to $5000. If they get awarded that much, the loser gets nothing.

A mother and father take their 6-year old son to a family nude beach...
As the boy walks along the sand, he notices that many of the women have bXXbs bigger
than his mother's, so he goes back to ask her why.
She tells her son, 'The bigger they are, the sillier the lady is.'
The boy, pleased with the answer, goes to play in the ocean but returns to tell his mother
that many of the men have larger things than his dad does.
She replies, 'The bigger they are, the dumber the man is'
Again satisfied with her answer, the boy goes back to the ocean to play
Shortly thereafter, the boy returns and promptly tells his mother:
'Daddy is talking to the
silliest lady on the beach, and the longer he talks, the dumber he gets.

The no soliciting thing reminded me of the time my scumbag criminal neighbor came by trying to sell steaks out of the cooler in the back of his truck. I told him "No solicitation" he didn't know what it meant and I explained it. He said he wasn't selling anything, he was offering a service. I told him that no, he was in fact trying to sell me something and there was no way in hell I was going to buy steaks out of the back of a truck & told him to get lost before my dogs ate him. My dogs seemed to take the hint & started barking & charging at him so he took off. I later found out he was working at a BBQ place in town and I assume he stole the steaks from them. The place didn't last very long. It was a drive-up only place & they took forever to cook the ribs. They didn't have stuff ready so you'd have to wait like 3o min & sometimes they refused to even heat stuff up and wanted to sell just the frozen ribs & told people to heat them up themselves.
