Fortunately, it hasn't been below freezing here yet (at least not that I've noticed). We had a very nasty thunderstorm the other day, but no snow.

Monday the groomer wasn't in to give the dog a bath so I went to the post office for mail, went to the store to pick up prescriptions & cleaning supplies (including fabric softener), saw my brother on his way to work & stopped to give him a letter when he realized he forgot his work shirts at home. He rushed back & got them and sped to work, got pulled over & got a ticket but his supervisor said he was going to try to get a pool together to pay for the ticket for him since he was speeding to get to work on time on his usual day off.

I went back home, put my bro's medicine in his room, washed some dishes, frosted the cake my bro had put in the pressure cooker before falling asleep (the night before I'd turned the heat off bc he forgot about it) & heated up a bbq steak & veggies bowl thing and some asparagus for Mom. Then I decided to clean the toilet & the floor around it. Trash can was full so I took it out and when I went in to the kitchen to get something I was bothered by the trash piling up over the can so I managed to put the overflow in to a bag and took out the old bag, tossed it in the front room for my brother to drag out, put a new bag in, filled it up with trash that had spilled on the floor, tossed it in the front room, then put another bag into the can, and went back to the bathroom to put a new bag in the trashcan and clean some more. My back gave out on me before I could clean both rooms entirely though.

My brother got home & asked my mother who had cleaned (I think he thought that my friend & his fiance had been over to help). My mother said "Who do you think cleaned?" So he came and knocked on my door and thanked me.

I took Mom to get her bloodwork Tuesday afternoon, picked up packages from the post office, and napped for most of the rest of the day. I'm still exhausted but got woken up bc Mom heard a mouse in the front room even though there's nothing I could do about it. So, I'm trying to get my mind to settle enough to go back to sleep.

Thursday my friend is supposed to come over and help me change the wax ring on the toilet.

I have no idea what temperature it was today. Power went out again and I slept almost all day. Around 7am the dog wanted back in my room and dove under the covers so I guess she was cold. LOL. I just took my medicine & am trying to wake up enough to go make dinner.

Got a little freezing rain today

It was 28 degrees when I went out this morning around 7:30am. My truck doors were frozen shut (but I managed to get them open. Windows wouldn't roll down, wipers wouldn't budge. I had to sit there with heated seats and defrost on for 15 minutes before I could see (no ice scrapers down here).

I picked up my friend and took him to look for parts for his car and then went to Lowes for some plumbing parts. Managed to make it to Taco Bell in time for breakfast and I actually like the breakfast quesadillas. Then it was back to my house to change the wax seal on the toilet. Pulled it up and found out the flange underneath was broken. The part where the bolt on the right side came up was completely shattered. I had a metal flange repair ring on hand so my friend put that on, but we couldn't find any of my screws that I used to have to secure it to the floor (I think I loaned them to him and they are still at his house or all used up or lost). Put the toilet back on, but it's not sitting right. I don't know if it's bc the flange isn't secure or if it's just not on right. But the toilet now rocks even with the bolts tightened. Whenever we sit on it it makes a thunk and pops forward. I went back to the store and got some screws and washers for the repair flange. I hope that the repair flange isn't the problem. If it is blocking the toilet from sitting properly it will have to be removed and I'll need a new flange. It's also possible that my friend didn't get it back on just right, but it wasn't easy to get it in to place. I'm going to get some toilet shims tomorrow to see if shimming the back will make it sit better. But, I am not sure if the wax seal is intact now. I'll have to grab another one just in case.

My mother gave my friend a little electronics repair kit for cellphones and small devices so he was happy. Mom has a doctor's appointment in the afternoon. I'm hoping I can get some sleep tonight so I won't be exhausted.

If the highest level of the flange or repair flange sets much more than 3/8 inch above the finished floor level, it's the problem. ....or maybe the a screw, washer or nut wasn't swept out of the way and the toilet is rocking on that.
I just pulled a toilet and added 1/4 inch underlayment. The toilet was so close to the flange, there wasn't more than 1/16 of an inch of wax on it. You need more than 1/16 of an inch of wax covering the flange.
By removing the toilet you will easily see what the problem is. If the flange with the repair piece is approaching 1/2 inch you found the problem. 1/4" is ideal.
Also, those wax rings with the built in plastic "funnel" thingy can occasionally cause a problem if the clearance is tight between the toilet and flange.

Ya have to either double up on the wax rings when its flush or raise the flange with a kit. Ace or true value

I think the main problem is that the repair flange wasn't secured with screws so it could have moved. I also found out that the mini repair kit I got that the clerk at the hardware store said to put on top of the flange, actually fits under the flange. I still have the decking screws I just bought to secure it if I need to screw it in place once it is set in. So, I might try that when I pull the toilet again. It will mean the toilet will sit at the same height again. I still want to use some scrap sheet vinyl underneath the toilet around the flange and maybe put a bead of caulk around it to keep water from going under the sheet vinyl bc otherwise the water just soaks in to the OSB. With the sheet vinyl in place, if there are leaks, it will be easier to see on top of it- and it will protect the floor a bit more.

On a side note, I saw that Charlotte brand has made some new PVC fittings called Connectite that work sort of like sharkbite fittings, only they are for DWV instead of water supply. They look tempting, but I don't know how sturdy they are. They advertise that they are adjustable and re-usable. They have closet flanges, sanitary tees, straight connectors, 45s, and long sweep 90s. They only have a few sizes thus far and don't seem to have any wyes or cleanouts yet. I think I could use the 45s under two of the bathroom sinks, although since the lower half of the drain pipe going through the bottom of the vanity is chrome plated, I might need a fernco fitting to bridge the PVC to it. They both have S-traps so I would need to run the trap arm back farther for AAVs and then use the 45s to get back to the drain in the floor. Gonna be "fun" cutting through the chrome-plated stuff. I also need to figure out if it is 1-1/4" or 1-1/2".

Took Mom to her doctor's appointment. He wrapped her knee in an ace bandage to see if it would help with the pain. Problem is, her leg above the knee has too much fat to fit in a knee brace that expands to 22", but her lower leg is closer to normal size. If compression works, it won't be easy to find a compression brace thing that will fit her easily. Her blood sugar was a little high but her A1c, cholesterol, and other bloodwork was all good. The doctor said she should eat more fiber and fewer carbs. She lost a little weight-- I think she was 236lbs. I'm catching up to her and am about 228lbs. I really really need to lose at least some of the fat on my gut bc it makes it harder for me to breathe when I bend to pick stuff up & I can't get my new waist pouch to fit comfortably-- just a little too tight at max extension.

I'm trying to get her to try the plain mashed cauliflower stuff. My brother loved the stuff with chives and sour cream and liked it with garlic. I found more steamer bowls for her- she tried pineapple chicken this time but didn't like it. It's the only one she's tried thus far that has been a "No". Even the dog wouldn't eat it and he normally wants all of her table scraps.

I actually remembered to take my medicine today and I will have to pick up a refill on my cholesterol meds tomorrow. I need to start getting up at a regular time and also get my mother up and help her with some exercises the doctor recommended for her knees. I also need to see about both of us eating smaller meals throughout the day.

I really should be sleeping right now. LOL.
