People die from the measles every year. I bet 99% of the peoples that won't immunize their kids don't do it for a rational reason....... like in your step sons case.

I can't remember anyone who died from a childhood disease when I was a kid, mostly before vaccines. I think they have hurt our immune systems.
My oldest son had a reaction the MMR, so he didn't get his second shot. # 2 son no problems but I was worried. I got the measles vaccine when I was a youngster. Which one was the one that left a round scar? Had that too. Had chicken pocks and that was horrific as I remember.
A lot of the anti-vaxers are just convinced that the statistics about measles deaths are made up & that it's just big pharma's way of pushing poison in to people to make everyone autistic. I still encounter people who believe vaccines cause autism even after that was debunked. I linked to the article showing it was a false study to begin w/ & one girl's response was about how there are more cases of autism now so it must be vaccines. I had to point out there are many other factors: Higher populations, advancements in technology, people having children at older ages, reclassification & expansion of the autism spectrum (which is a huge one), & more understanding/knowledge to diagnose. I also think that there are some overdiagnosis cases where kids who are shy at the doctor's office & who were put in front of the TV or left to play video games instead of interacting with other humans come off as socially awkward & get labeled as autistic. I knew a kid who's mother is very neglectful & rarely interacts with the kid except to hit him or scream at him. For the first few years of his life, his mother put him in a little seat in front of the TV w/ a bottle from 7am to noon. Then she'd refill the bottle (when he got older it would be juice in a sippy cup & some dry cereal poured out on the tray) & go back to sleep & leave him there to watch TV for several more hours. Then she wondered why he couldn't talk right & didn't know how to behave around people.
One of the really sad things to me, is that people would rather risk their kids dying than supposedly developing autism (nevermind that, barring traumatic brain injury, people don't develop autism-- it starts at birth because their brains are different).

Why any whole hearted conservative wouldn't like that is beyond me.
I'm surprised the bill didn't suggest that men can't get vasectomies or viagra without the consent of their wives/girlfriends. Women get denied tubaligation & hysterectomies all the time bc the doctors are concerned about what their current (or future) partners may want & don't care what the women want.
In some ways I find the bill funny & it does make a point, however, I'm not one for frivolous or satirical bills being brought up. It's a waste of time & taxpayer $. They should be focusing on things that they actually want to pass & that will benefit people. Perhaps they could work on legislation to protect the security of the election system.

They get comfort knowing they wasted taxpayer money. One Repub in Missouri tried to get a law passed requiring gun ownership. No bigger proponent of guns than me, but that was stupid.

IIRC, my father told me that what happened was a reporter was trying to get the flower children/hippies to get violent so he could report on it & have a bigger story. They refused bc they were nonviolent. So the reporter picked up a rock & threw it at the National Guardsman. They didn't know who threw the rock & panicked & started shooting. So, a reporter was actually the cause of the deaths.

True, but they were ordered to be there & then some a-hole reporter wanted to stir things up & got people killed just so he could get a story. The NG were just trying to follow their orders, the protestors were just trying to exercise their freedom of speech w/o violence, & the reporter deliberately turned a tense situation into violent chaos.
