How to tame a protester.

The state of Oregon sponsored Oregon's version of Woodstock in 1970. The only state to sponsor a hippie rock festival. Just watched a program on it. I've watched the show before a couple times. It's a one of a kind event that couldn't happen today.

We have a show called "Oregon Experience" on Oregon Public Broadcasting. Type in Oregon Voretex festival 1970 in a search. Maybe there's a video of it you can watch.
Nixon was coming to Portland to give a speech, and the event was set up to get protesters out of town. It worked out really well for everyone.
This must have been a cool event to attend. I woulda been nearing 13 when this happened. Unlike Woodstock........... No rain. This may have a video link.

Since I watched it on PBS and they sell CD's, I'm not sure if there's a way to watch the show. If there is a link to it, it's actually pretty good from a historical perspective of the time.
It also shows how Oregon was a leader in a lot of ways.......................... Tom McCall was Gubner then. He stopped the privatization of beaches, meaning no person or business can own the actual beach. Oregon was first in that area. Oregon's beaches are all public from border to border. The government even bought up property via....... the "because we can" method. I'm not for that in most cases, but this was different. Nobody should be able to own the actual beach. Next to the beach was OK, just not the sand and water. Lake property is different..... there are a lot of lakes and a lot of them here have state and county parks for lake access.
Oregon had the nations first bottle bill. 5 cent deposit changed to 10 cents per bottle a few years ago. As a result, you won't find bottles or cans laying alongside the road.
.................however things went south after McCall. We've gone deep left instead of middle left. Our rep is anti-gas, pro electric cars. The state won't fix infrastructure problems because they want to force people into mass transit............. It's 25 miles between cities here on the coast.......... can you imagine the cost? The populations in the coastal cities are 6,000 to 12,000 people, with where I live, the exception. We are two adjoining cities with a mass of 24,000ish.
Carbon taxes are going to get voted in and possibly another gun bill........... not by voters, just by those special people in the legislature that are soooooo much smarter than the voters.
We've gone to hell, but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
