I have decided to pull trigger on Pergo Outlast+ laminate floor for my house (living room, kitchen, family room and hallways). My house is one-story ranch with wood subfloor. I just read installation instructions provided by Pergo/Home Depot (see: https://images.homedepot-static.com/catalog/pdfImages/47/47b6dbee-5d7a-41da-9536-a3d885ace912.pdf). Here's the part the instruction said...

"When there is a crawl space the soil in the crawl space must be covered by a 6 mil (.15mm) non-recycled (100% virgin) resin polyethylene film with seams overlapping at least 8 inches or more."

I have crawl space and I don't want to cover the dirt with a poly film. Can I put a plastic film sheet over the wood subfloor prior to the installation of Pergo Outlast+ laminate floor (as a underlayment)? I think Pergo has a product for the underlayment...can I use that over the wood subfloor??

I live in Southern California. The dirt in crawl space area is always dry and well vented. The weather in Southern California is mostly sunny days, but we do get rainy weather days during the winter time and some humid days in the summer.

Thanks

Do yourself a favor and buy a waterproof LVP instead of laminate. Laminate is dead.
