I guess it comes down to what is more important then: Profit/money or the health of the environment & ultimately people because this will come to affect us-- it already has in many ways. Sometimes things are worth it even if they aren't profitable.
Outlawing styrofoam & plastics is pretty dumb though.
It's going to be fun getting a takeout salad and driving a half mile to the lake or park, where you want to sit and eat it and there's no fork. Maybe you can eat if you have a screwdriver or some pliers in the car.

I carry a metal traveler's flatware kit in my truck.
I'm all for the recycling part but not for the banning of plastics.I mean, I understand banning asbestos, but there are no suitable replacements for the plastic things. My sister uses the cloth bags at Target but if she uses self-checkout she has to put stuff in the bag after setting it in the bagging area bc the weight of the bag throws off the sensor.

Carry your own utensils, straw, chop sticks.

Before they outlaw the stuff, I'm buying a bunch of commercial sized bags of spoons or forks. It's like 300ct bags for $5.95. Great for morning cereal and yogurt. Doing my part in keeping the petroleum companies afloat.

I use self-checkout because they usually only have one cashier open & long lines. I don't have to worry about the cashier walking away in the middle of a transaction or scanning something more than once.

They are supposed to have a single person standing & watching over the self-checkout machines but they don't always have people there. They also have someone who checks receipts when people walk out, but they don't really read them-- just glance & pretend they are looking. At Samsclub they check the receipts & then count the number of items to make sure it matches the number of items on the receipt regardless of what the item is.

At Walmart, at least in my state, stopping for a receipt check is totally voluntary. It is illegal to MAKE someone stop and show one. In fact, if you try to force someone and a complaint is filed, you are fired. At Sam's Club, it is in the member agreement that you sign.
