What did you do today?

Highup, those are nice drawings. I can't draw a straight line even with a ruler. LOL. That's why I use computers to do my drawing.

Today I got up early, checked the weather, put air in the low tires so the TPMS will stop nagging me-- rear tire really needed it, got inspection sticker renewed, & grabbed some stuff from Walmart for Mom. I got her test strips for her new blood sugar meter so she won't have an excuse to not check her sugar. She tried to claim they won't work with her meter but I checked and they will. She really doesn't want to check her sugar levels. She had an appointment with the Diabetes specialist at the doctor's office yesterday. The lady, Emily, explained how to put on the Freestyle Libre sensor and then gave her some extra Jenumet in case there's ever a shortage. She's very sweet. She said that sometimes patients are unable or unwilling to change their sensors so that if she had trouble she could always come in and Emily will help her. They didn't even charge for the visit.

I had a bit of a brain fart when trying to renew the sticker. First I couldn't find my mileage -- I had to hit all sorts of different buttons to get it to show. Then I couldn't find my registration. Turns out I had it in my hand but thought it was expired because I read the issue date and I need glasses to read the expiration date. My friend pointed it out for me and I felt like an idiot. But, I got it renewed so its good.

My brother may be getting hired for a job soon so we'll need the CR-V running. It needs an oil change, fresh gas and an engine clean solution run through the tank, new battery, and inspection sticker. I still need to put the registration in the glove box and put the registration sticker on the back. It's been sitting for over a year without being driven. I'd start it and drive it around if I had the key but I don't.

Updating: Since I posted this I helped change the battery in the CR-V.

I have a flooring-related question: I will be putting vinyl plank in a room with 5 doorways. 3 of the doorways will remain unchanged but I will be putting new prehung doors in 2 of them (and will have to move a stud and bump over part of the doorway for one of them). Should I install the doors first and then do the flooring around? Or should I put the flooring in and install the doors over? I can get a sample of the flooring or use a scrap piece to make sure I get the 5mm height of the flooring if need be. Also, how far in to a door that swings away from the room should I put the flooring? How far in to an inswing door should I go under the door?

LOL. Don't like installing carpet? As an aside, my doorjamb for the doorway where I need to start my flooring is 4.5625" deep. Not sure if that would give a specific measurement for the flooring install to start. One of these days I'll figure it out. LOL. Really need to get that area cleaned up. Hoping I can rehome these dogs so they won't keep making messes.

Todays job grouted Audra LVT installed diagonally, over inlaid vinyl.
I have to go back tomorrow to grout and do perimeter moldings.

I went to look at a vinyl repair yesterday. I'd been to this house almost 20 years ago as it was being "refurbished". I never saw the work completed. The owner gave me a tour.
I don't recall the product those installer used. There was a lot of custom fitting.
I recall this vinyl product was installed loose layed but adhered onto a special paper, then grouted.

My other purchase was a good buy... sort of. These crimpers function smooth as a Rolex watch and look almost brand new.
The crimp sizes looked odd but I bought these thinking I might be able to order some does in "normal" sizes like 14, 16 and 18.
That's not gonna happen.
These aren't the ones I'd want, but the price is representative of similar sets.

I'm about to go clean my truck out before it gets too hot. The people who want to adopt my dogs are meeting with me today to see the dogs. I have to drive them out to someplace a little closer to them and they will see if the dogs like them or not. Truck is full of tools and stuff so I need to clear it out. Brother is sleeping so I'll get no help. Maybe I'll find some stuff I've been missing. LOL.

The only way to find lost tools is to buy replacements. Save your receipt..... You're old tool will show up soon after buying the new one.

Helped my 14 year old grandson work the binding machine…

I've only use one once during an on site binding situation. The thread would break ever 10 feet.... or 6 inches. What a pain. Great to see him working hands on without a cell phone in hand.

Less screen time was the objective. It ain’t easy. Like most kids he’s addicted. He doesn’t seem to mind helping with jobs around the house like this one though.

Yes the portable machines can be finicky. Changing worn parts, keeping the tension settings set properly, and constant oiling helps. That machine is 30 years old, seen a lot of use and still works well. It’s one of the pieces of equipment I couldn’t bear to part with when I retired.

I remember binding by hand. What a PITA.

NICE ! JP, was that straight stitch? My daughter was the same age when I taught her on that same machine. An NC single puller, set for 1.25” cotton, straight stitch. She kept the machine / tape tight on all four sides, actually better than some warehouse workers. Unfortunately the horse hobby made it tough to pin her down for helping the old man. She’s 32 now.

Highup, in my case I buy the new stuff and it disappeares and I can never find where the receipts went. LOL. I found a lot of stuff I couldn't find before when cleaning out the truck though. I even found a whole brand new tool bag to put stuff in.
JPFloor, glad you got your grandson involved in helping. It's important for kids to learn how to do things and to have that quality time with family. I loved working on projects with my father.
I met with the people and introduced them to the dogs. The husband wanted to take them home right away. The wife was worried about fleas and wants them checked for heartworm first. She gave me some $ for gas for meeting them. Dogs puked all over the back of the truck but I had a moving blanket down for them. They still got some overspillage bc they moved the blankets. I have to go clean that out soon. Roads were bumpy and twisty to the point I almost got carsick while driving.
Shortly after I got home I had to take my brother over to friend's house for a shower and then to his job interview. I was a parking lot vulture for the entirety of his interview. Finally found a spot far away and by the time I walked in, he was walking out. Got home and just about collapsed on the bed. I instructed my brother on how to cook something for Mom just before I racked out. He later told me that she had a tantrum when she found out I wasn't cooking it for her, but she shut up when he gave her the food. I explained to her later that I couldn't stay on my feet anymore and she had calmed down.
I'm trying to motivate myself to get up and do something. Still need to clean dog puke out of the back seat.

Who's our resident phone technician?
My phone is an unlocked Google pixel 4a. When I bought it I bought it and a Straight talk SIM card at Walmart. I believe Straight talk was AT&T.
Well, Verizon bought out Straight talk while back and get a new SIM card that works with Verizon.
I've got the new SIM card.
They just they just gave me a warning that I need to install it by the 13th which is only a few days away.
I believe the photos are all stored on the cloud but I don't know if my contact list and text messages are stored there too. I've read that they are not stored on the SIM card.... I'm at least sure that the text messages are not stored there.
I've got a lot of stuff in text messages that I cannot lose.
Any ideas how to go about that?
I still have my old Motorola phone. It doesn't have a SIM card because I put that SIM card in my current phone.
I'm wondering if I can transfer my text messages to my old phone so at least they're saved somewhere. The Motorola still works on Wi-Fi.

Anyway, just curious how one goes about saving text messages and making them accessible when I put the new Verison SIM card in.

Thank you, his mother is 33, and she was never having any part of this business. I’m hoping he’s smart enough to do the same. I loved what I did but I wouldn’t want to start out in the trade now a days.

This one is set for a zigzag stitch with 7/8” binding. I do prefer the wider binding for area rugs but during the latter part of my career I did mostly commercial work at which point this machine was used primarily for carpet base. I didn’t feel like changing the guide today and the 7/8” binding is what I had laying around.

For binding carpet base I had it set up on my saw table with a few clamps I used for guides… Kinda like autopilot… Worked great, easy money.

Yep ! We had the custom table with a stair nose metal ( upside down) as a cpt cove guide. Cut a 30’ pc. Get her started, press the lock button and walk away, then cut another pc. And repeat, And answer the phone too

Sorry I can’t help, but I can caution you. My brother went through a similar issue, assuming everything was saved in his cloud account, but it wasn’t
