I hadn't logged on for quite a while (many months). I then logged back on the other day and immediately got a forum survey email. 5 minutes later I got a PM from emi9541 : Flooring Forum - DIY & Professional...

So anyone can openly carry a gun? Doesn't that seem a little silly? Who would want to be a police officer in that environment?

    Second subfloor layer?

Like all things in life, it depends. You can add another layer and that may look best. The problem comes with outside doorways and stairs. Too large of a change and you can have problems there. Depending on how much you need to add, plywood is the best but will be more expensive than...

We never imagined this occupation was dangerous

Yeah, and the logical thing would be to fix the broken parts instead of throwing the entire law away. Based on how congress works now, repealing the law and nothing will replace it for a long time.

We never imagined this occupation was dangerous

And just about every other. The ACA was passed to address this, but congress seems hell bent on getting rid of that.

    Need Direction on Direction

What's wrong with bamboo? Strand bamboo is very durable and eco friendly. It is harder to install, but other than that ???

    Need Direction on Direction

Like most things in life, it depends. How thick is your subfloor? Ply or OSB? How flexible is the subfloor (jump up and down on it in the middle of the room). Think of the subfloor as a system. If it moves now when you walk across it it'll continue after the finish floor is laid. If you...

Underlayment Options for Bamboo Over Wood

Have you determined which nailer you're going to use? Strand is really hard and dense. Too big of a gauge and you'll split the tongues off. I installed a few 100 sqft of strandwoven timber. The same as bamboo but made from wood fiber scraps. I ended up renting a Primatech 550 (18GA cleats)...

Underlayment Options for Bamboo Over Wood

How far off is the floor from the Bamboo mfgr's recommendations?

    Hardwood cutting board

Typically one would run everything through a planer to get it all in equal thickness. Then through a joiner to square them up. Then Use biscuits to align and make the joints stable. Glue & clamp. Then sand both sides smooth. Finally treat the wood with something non toxic.

    Table saws

If I had kids I'd raise hell if the school shop didn't have Sawstop table saws. Kids do dumb things and a lifetime injury is a high price for one moment of inattention. If I was responsible for a school or business shop I would have Sawstop saws. The liability for an accident is too high to...

    Table saws

IIRC, about $70 + blade. If you're cutting something and hit metal that will set it off. Another mfgr (Bosch?) is looking to sell another system that isn't so expensive when it triggers, but I think that is still hung up in the courts (infringes on sawstop patents).

    Home Ownership Rates.

When I was (much) younger and I moved I kept the home and used a property management company to act as landlord. Did that twice. Been lucky with tenants. Did have a fire once which cost the insurance company over $100K (they covered everything including lost rent). One property manager is a...

    Table saws

Yeah, that extra ~$400 seems like a lot until an accident happens.

    Home Ownership Rates.

If you rent here you're going to see rent jumps >5% every year. Landlords love renters. Rental income initially pays for repairs and a good chunk of the mortgage. After a few years it pays for everything. In the end the landlord owns a paid off property that brings in good $ every month.
