Bad install? - carpet installation for lowes - please rank 1 to 10

Your 5th pic shows a visible pile flaw. That got the installer off the hook, as well as Lowe's. Manufacturer gives them a full credit for the product on your job. Glad you have had this remediated. That first installer should be cutting meat. Deb

Haven't hit facebook yet today ~ Happy Birthday, Bud! Hope you have a great day. Deb & Dave

Jon, that's another name for it, but it is a brand name from Roberts. Like Kleenex is a brand name. Never called them tissues ...

We could restretch pretty much all the residences in Winnipeg. Even the guys powerstretching aren't getting it right. We did a partial replacement in December where the first installer botched a 45' seam ~ we replaced 2 45 footers, and seamed to the existing first piece, about 15 feet. I...

Floormaven, the second metal you have illustrated, we call 'bevel bar', or 'offset'. I once mentioned tackless as 'gripper' to Tia, she had never heard of it being referred to that way. Why aren't we all calling a spade a spade?

    British installations

Of course, that is wrong. I can imagine that there may have been two installers on site, each doing a room and they used the metals to save time seaming. I watched a Mike Holmes earlier today where two installers were putting down a room of carpet with a 2' fill. The one guy was only...

Ernesto, are you talking about Concord tape? The version sold here has flat 1" wide metal strips that run the width of the tape, about every 6" in order to make seams cool flat. We recently replaced a wool seam that had been done with Concord tape and where the metal pieces were, it rippled...

Hey guys, I guess what you call binder bar is what we call naplock. So often we are asked to "seam to existing", but we are reluctant to do so because if the stretch of the existing material is inferior to what we have installed, then buckles will migrate out to what we have put in. We have...

    San Diego/Monterray Bay Aquarium

Maybe it was two aquariums, but it was a pleasure to watch. There is a polar bear aquarium being built here in Winnipeg which is scheduled to open next year. Based upon the plans we've seen, it will be a world-class facility. We are looking forward to it.

    San Diego/Monterray Bay Aquarium

Dave and I are documentary junkies ... tonite we caught an Oasis HD flick about the aquarium. There was an overhead shot of the ground-level visitor's entry with a killer slate job on the floor. If there is a member here, or a member here that knows who oversaw that job, please forward our...

    Happy Birthday Deb

Thanks, Guys. And for the record, I turned 56. Old enough not to be messed with, but still enough of a kid to enjoy myself... We did work Friday, and we came home to find that one of our neighbours had tied two balloons and had a card attached to our back door... lots of FB wishes and...

    Dirty StainMaster Be Gone

Any carpet will look like that if it is not maintained according to manufacturer specs ~ unless I am mistaken, Stainmaster recommends carpet cleaning every 2 years. Stainmaster pad is over-rated, though (IMHO).

Randy, you are very welcome. You are a very lucky man to have those moments to treasure forever. Kindest regards, Deb & Dave

Happy Belated Birthday from us too, Jon.

    Condolences

Randy, you have our deepest condolences. You were in a very close and loving relationship with your mother, something that some of us do not necessarily enjoy. Deb & Dave

Nick how do I fix this?

The problem I am having with Windows 7 is that the files I have imported from my old computer (Windows 98) are not quite compatible; when I get into them, I am asked for a key code for the software, which of course, I don't have, and I can only access those files 10 times before I get locked out.

    15ft wide carpets.

We have only handled 15 foot goods a few times in our years working together. PITA, we have to bungee the back doors open. Hate that. We can easily accommodate 13'6" goods with the doors closed, though.

    LVT adhesive

That is all we can get for the pad tacker, somebody told me that Shur-fast bought the rights to the 5010 size. We still prefer to use the Duo-fast Gold chisel point divergent for the electric gun, everything else just jams. We have to go to one of the outside supply houses or HD for them...

    Drop and Done

Looks like another fibrefloor copycat. We full spread them all, laying in wet. Any other method is just asking for trouble.

Seam tape and iron for newer backings

It is very rare that we will do a seam with stretched product, but do the seams first. We are using a Roberts 3" iron, and prefer to use Capital Gold tape (available from Lowe's for under $12) which we have to buy outside the shop. The product we worked with on Thursday & Friday was a Shaw...
