    Amazing Bruce Floors

Yeah that's what I like, that classic gloss look. Just a shame how quality, look and uniqueness went out the window 15yrs ago and today floors are just all dull, boring, and well, for lack of a better word, fake! Actually, people today are so ignorant about it that guests ask me all the time how...

How to do this hardwood to carpet transition

Ok thanks for the insight but why would I need to cut a lap into the edge there? I'm pretty sure the ends of the boards there have a groove that runs along the edge either because this 3/4" tongue and groove is already grooved on one end or they cut the groove when installing and for whatever...

How to do this hardwood to carpet transition

Hi all. Here's some pics of the hardwood to carpet transition I'm talking about. We are replacing this old carpet and while doing so I want to attack this transition because old owners just ran the flooring flush to carpet and it was tucked. Doesn't look awful I just think a proper transition...

    I've tried everything!!

Hi guys. I got 20yr old Bruce 3/4" solid oak prefinished hardwood flooring that's very nice but has some loud pops and creaking that never seems to go away. House humidity is controlled all year at 30-45% so that's not the issue. I think it's just slightly warped in some spots. The issue is the...

Bruce prefinished 2.25 solid oak shrinkage question

Great info thanks for sharing that link. I'm closest to Chicago. Looking at the data, it shows woods moisture content being lower during the summer months and higher in the dry winter months, if I'm reading that correctly. I thought that should be the opposite. Why would wood have higher...

Bruce prefinished 2.25 solid oak shrinkage question

Yeah that old wood is much better quality then stuff that's used even 20yrs ago. That 50yr old wood is different

Bruce prefinished 2.25 solid oak shrinkage question

Absolutely! It's only been maintained for the year I've been living there. There's no telling what the last owner neglected and the fact that they would leave for months at a time and leave house vacant only adds truth to it. I did discover the humidifier with a cal crusted filter that looked...

Bruce prefinished 2.25 solid oak shrinkage question

Nope it's the original 3t HE furnace. Has a built in bypass humidifier on the return but I have never turned it on because I believe those can do more harm than good if not monitored daily

Bruce prefinished 2.25 solid oak shrinkage question

Yes been here for 2 years and have always maintained a constant RH indoors 35% winter and around 40-50% in summer. Nothing to justify such large gaps, can almost fit 2 cents between some boards! It's as if even after 2 yrs, they won't close up which is why I say installation error. Either that...

Bruce prefinished 2.25 solid oak shrinkage question

Hi. These solid 3/4"x 2.25" wide Bruce hardwood floors were installed in 2001. Not sure what the heck the last owner had going on but since we lived here for 2 years now we always keep the RH at 35-45% year round in the house. I know gapping is typical due to environmental changes but these...

Is this floor repairable without sanding?

Yeah interesting to think about. On a side note there has been some over zealous sink activity as well as the same with the water/ice dispensing at the fridge so that didn't help. It's strange to me how a floor like this with such a thick heavy sealed poly finish on top could allow any crowning...

Is this floor repairable without sanding?

You're on point man!!! Yes the fridge is warm underneath if I step right along to edge of it, side or front, can feel that heat venting out. And the other rug (in front of sink) is right up to a toekick register under the cabinet. Could warm air right up to the floor be contributing to that...

Is this floor repairable without sanding?

Yeah could be. I just figured as they're the prefinished floors with the beveled edges that air would easily flow under the rugs enough between the bevels, I mean logically this makes sense.

Is this floor repairable without sanding?

Yep you've stated nothing but the honest facts here! Thank you for that. 100% avoidable and I think the battle to maintain is a better battle to choose given that fact that it's always a challenge to remind a busy wife and 3 kids to take care of our stuff as all human induced damage is avoidable...
