2nd time was a charm. The floor is down with no gaps. All the joints are tight. Trim tomorrow, then move the furniture back. The dogs will be happy to have their space back. Thank you everyone who took the time to share your experience and wisdom.

    My project 26 x 14

Pulled up the flooring last night and phoned a friend. He is an experienced carpenter and remodeler. He gave me some tips and offered to help. Before I could utter a word my wife said YES! Hopefully 2nd time is a charm.

    My project 26 x 14

Got home last night and a few more long joints had come undone or are on their way. I think I started on the wrong wall, interior vs exterior. The exterior wall is cinder block and most likely is the straightest. There is an 1.5 in difference from end to end currently.

Pretty much convinced I will redo, just have to warm up the wife to the idea. The planks are 6 ft long and it is impossible to install with one person. I

I used a tapping block. Smashed my left thumb and middle finger, funny how much you use your non-dominate hand . I bought 10% over and then an extra box of planks to cover my inexperience.

Gaps are about a 16th of an inch. Considering pulling up the floor and redoing. My wife will probability leave and take to dogs.

Long join, looks like it starts about 3 foot out. There are no loose spots.

    My project 26 x 14

Laid down the LVP yesterday. Found the room is 1 inch out of square, found out about halfway through the process. One of the longest days of my life, the wife is very forgiving. I ended up with some gaps in the joints, what do you use to fill them? They are probably noticeable to anyone else but...

    My project 26 x 14

Turns out the high spot was caused by a joist being too high. I could not gain access to that area of the house through the crawlspace, thank God. Ended up pulling up the subfloor and taking off about 3/4 in from the joist. I then ran stringers on the adjacent joists then on the trimmed one...

    My project 26 x 14

I finished pulling the last of the laminate last night. The rust I described earlier was limited to the heads of the "nails" the shank that was in the subfloor came out rust free every time. I would estimate about 60% had rust and the rest looked normal. The vents are open btw... Found my first...

    My project 26 x 14

It is funny, the fasteners seem to have rust on the end that was in the flooring and not all are rusted. It is better than 50 % however. The shank that protruded through the subfloor comes out discolored but does not have rust like to top end. The former owner had insulation installed between...

    My project 26 x 14

Day 3; today's demo went smoother. Took up another 80 sqft of laminate after work. Finding that a majority of the nails are rusted and do not look like they would have lasted much longer. Have only found one so far that I was unable to remove due to the rust. The subfloor was not screwed down...

    My project 26 x 14

Began demo Saturday. Divided the room in 3rd's and began to remove the old laminate. Removed about 2 feet and ran into a 2 foot wide x 26 foot long section of glued down boards along the wall. What a royal pain in the behind. For you pros, is this common practice? Spent Sunday grinding off...

    My project 26 x 14

1st time flooring project 70 year old Florida bungalow on a crawlspace with original pine floors except for the front room 26x14. Seems a limb pierced the roof during a storm in the last decade and ruined the front room. It was replaced with a new plywood subfloor and 5/8 in laminate. I think...

    NEW to Forum

Greetings, I am thinking hard about DYI floor replacement. I currently have low grade 5/8 in laminate which has cupped in a 364 sqft room(Looked great when I brought the home 6 years ago). It is over an 18in crawlspace in NE FL. The space does not have a 6 mil plastic barrier and is a major pain...
