Hi,

I'm trying to install engineering hardwood in my family room, but I realized near the fireplace there's a slab of cement. It looks like it's for the foundation for the fireplace. Don't think I can chip it out.

It's a small triangle, so I think it would be odd to make a reducer/transition.

Anyone have some ideas?

It really isn't....
But you could build a cap for it put of the same wood species as you are installing.
Or use a flat cap of white mdf
or depending on how high it really is you could float it out with floor patch enough to get away with it.
I would chip it, it wouldn't take more than 10 min with an inch cold chisel. That non worked concrete tends to bust really easily.

Chipping it better than trying to grind it with a diamond wheel plus if you grind it you have to clean the entire house afterwards even if you mask everything off

Looks like sloppy bag mix concrete. I’d eat that up in an hour with my equipment, no dust. This threshold was about 3/4” thick of chipping. (Background) the cart illustrates my disdain for lifting. I tilt the tote on top by hand.
