Hi! Newbie here. :)

A few months back we had a party and taped a plastic cover on our floors to make cleanup easier later (kids, rainy night, lots of spills). This was obviously a huge mistake because afterwards, it took FOREVER to get the tape up and after trying many things - including GooBeGone (which says it can be used on hardwoods!), and an internet-suggested mixture of coconut oil and baking soda, which actually did work in getting the nasty sticky residue off the floors.

BUT NOW when the light hits the floor a certain way (which happens every day!) you can see where each piece of tape was, and a dull area around each tape piece shape.

Have we totally ruined our beautiful floors? :( Any way to fix these trouble spots? Any ideas are greatly appreciated!!!

Hi!
There are about a dozen.
Each piece of tape was about 2 inches long, and the standard width of scotch tape.
The tape is gone, and the sticky residue is gone, but there is a dull spot circling where the tape was - so you can see where the tape was and that the section around it is different from the rest of the floor.

Here's a photo. It wouldn't let me upload it before for some reason. But it worked! Here you can see some of the spots!!

Have a pro do a lite screening on it , and pull a new coat of finish on it .

I always use WD 40 for things like that . Doesn't dull the finish .

Next time use the Scotch 2080 blue tape with the orange inner circle of the roll
