We are installing a white oak engineered hardwood floor throughout the main floor of our house. It has quite a few knot holes and we are trying to find the best way to fill them. We have narrowed it down to epoxy and a product from Knottec (poweradhesives(dot com)/solutions/knottec). Does the Knottec power adhesive have the same strength and durability as epoxy? Some of the knot holes are 2" in diameter.

Can't say as I've ever heard of an engineered hardwood having knot holes that haven't already been pre filled and and the wear layer put over the whole plank?

Is it some sort of finish it yourself product?

Yes it is an unfinished product. We've research and plan on using Bona products to seal and finish the floor. We are just stuck on the right product to fill the knots.

Are you going to be sanding your floor at all? If not then whatever you use to fill the knots will have to be somewhat clean. The Knottec has a skive knife that comes with it so you could over fill slightly then skive it down. Epoxy would require you to try and fill them just perfectly if you’re not sanding. What about Starbond?

Now if you plan on doing some sanding before you apply any finish then I would just use a wood filler.

The premixed filler will likely shrink in the bigger knots and require a second pass. The powdered stuff that you mix up then apply doesn’t usually shrink.
