Have not checked for a while. But it used to be that more people were killed with blunt objects than guns.
We have problems in this country and guns just happen to be a convenient way for people to express those problems. Banning guns without addressing the problems does nothing. Those with problems will simply find another way to let us know they still have problems. Knives, bricks, automobiles, acid attacks… If you’re crazy you’ll find a way to let society know. What about dude who mowed down a bunch of people in NYC with a HD rental truck? Didn’t McVeigh use a rental truck for his bombing. We gonna ban all rentals? How about banning pressure cookers cus that’s what the Boston marathon bomber used. I’ve had kitchen items thrown at me. We gonna ban plates cus that’s prolly easier than me shuttin up.

Australia tried banning guns and the black market there has become crazy. The UK limits guns and stabbings became the norm. Now it is illegal to buy or possess a knife in the UK until you are 18. But the gangs have both. A friend of mine spent a year in London for the 3M company. He said the gangs control the streets. The bobbies are afraid of them. He said when the gangs stop you on the street, you better have something to give them.

I think I've changed my preference, as tonight I watched the women's water ballet or who cares what they call it.

In the last 30 years virtually every state has implemented some sort of concealed carry legislation-and violent crime has declined. 14 states now allow "constitutional carry" (no permit concealed carry)-and the crime rate has gone down. The places with the greatest incidents of violent crime...tend to be areas with the most restrictions on lawful self defense.
I have seen that 92% of mass shootings occurred in "gun free zones".
Gun homicides have decreased dramatically since the early 90s as has all violent crime.

A study undertaken by a group led by criminologist Dr. Gary Kleck of Florida State University found that there are approximately 2.1 to 2.5 million instances annually in which individual Americans use a gun to defend themselves.
You don't expect police to do that because they are quitting, fired or laid off because they're being replaced by counselors.

The Illinois Supreme Court ruled on Oct. 21 that two taxes on guns and ammunition in Cook County violate the state’s constitution because they affect law-abiding citizens’ Second Amendment right to acquire firearms for self-defense.
Supreme Court Justice Mary Jane Theis wrote in a 6–0 decision that the taxes violate the constitution’s uniformity clause, while also pointing out that the revenue from the generated tax isn’t directed toward funds or programs that reduce gun violence. “While the taxes do not directly burden a law-abiding citizen’s right to use a firearm for self-defense, they do directly burden a law-abiding citizen’s right to acquire a firearm and the necessary ammunition for self-defense,” Theis wrote in a 14-page opinion (pdf) filed on Thursday.
The justice concluded that the case will be remanded to the circuit court “for entry of summary judgment in favor of plaintiffs.”
In 2012, the Cook County Board of Commissioners approved a $25 tax on the retail purchase of a firearm within the county. The county’s Firearm Tax Ordinance was enacted in April 2013. It became obvious that neither the Nazis nor the Communists registered or turned in their weapons. However, ordinary, law-abiding Germans (including Jews) did register their legally-owned guns…, but they were no threat to public…

In 1942, the Nazi government ordered Flatow to be deported. In October he was transported, along with 1,021 other deportees, to the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp. In December, the 73-year old Alfred Flatow died at the camp, of starvation…, basically for the crime of legally owning a firearm.
At the time of its passage, the Weimar gun control law of 1928 allowed police to deny ownership of firearms to any “unreliable” person. The Nazis seized on this language, eventually making unauthorized ownership of guns and other weapons a very serious crime.
On November 10, 1938, the Nazi Interior Department formally decreed that persons defined as Jews under the infamous Nuremberg Laws were prohibited from possessing any types of weapons. They declared that Jews possessing weapons would be subject to 20 year sentences in concentration camps. In the nations and territories invaded and occupied on Hitler’s orders, private gun ownership was punishable by death!
The Nazis also moved to control others who possessed weapons. Despite protests, the government banned all voluntary “shooting clubs” in Germany. These clubs were popular forms of recreation across the nation, and many club leaders opposed the ban and even expressed objections to the Nazi government. As Hitler was rapidly centralizing and broadening his powers, he dissolved all local and independent shooting and sports clubs on May 10, 1933. Two weeks later, he created the Nazi-controlled German Shooting Sport Association which became another mouthpiece for the Nazi government and with war on the horizon, a source of males already trained in marksmanship.
Ironically, it was American technology that helped the Nazis identify armed Jews and other potential adversaries with registered weapons.
The German subsidiary of IBM provided the dictatorship with its new punch card and card-sorting system, allowing for an enormous amount of data (particularly for the 1930s) to be stored in 600 punch hole possibilities per card. This was very used for the “census” reports that Nazis were compiling.
In addition to seeking ordinary information about individuals living in each household, the Nazis added a question in column 22 requiring citizens to provide information on their religious affiliation, Protestants got punch hole #1 marked, Catholics #2 and Jews were identified by punch hole #3. With a simple cross reference with the nation’s gun registration lists, the Nazis easily identified Jews with legally registered firearms.
The rest as they say is history.

History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing. This mindset was clearly adopted by Chinese Communist dictator Mao Tse Tung when he said, “All political power comes from the barrel of a gun. The communist party must command all the guns, that way, no guns can ever be used to command the party.”
Today, there is a plethora of examples of liberal efforts to require registration of the 100 million legal owners of firearms in the United States. True students of history, may have a sense of déjà vu when reading of the plans the anti-gunners want to implement (and have implemented is some regions).

In 2014, Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derrenda told the press, “We recently started a program where we’re cross referencing all the pistol permit holders with the death records, and we’re sending people out to collect the guns whenever possible so that they don’t end up in the ‘wrong hands’.”
The law under which they have implemented this confiscation scheme says relatives of a deceased pistol owner have 15-days from the owner’s death to legally sell the pistol or get a permit for it. How many people are thinking about getting permits or selling a loved one’s possessions 15-days after their death? There is no doubt this was considered during the crafting of that law and was seen by its creators as a benefit to their scheme to hasten confiscation.
That being said, Nazi Germany was but one lesson in history of the dangers of gun registration/confiscation.
In 1911 in Turkey guns were restricted and a result one and a half million Armenians were unable to defend themselves and were ethnically cleaned by the government.
In 1929 the former Soviet Union established gun control and as a result Stalin’s government killed 40 million Soviets.
In 1935 Communist China established gun control and 50 million political dissidents were arrested and killed.
In 1964 to 1981 Guatemala established gun control and 100,000 were killed.
In 1970 Uganda established gun control and from 1970-1979 300,000 Christians were killed by the dictatorial government.
In 1975-1977 Cambodia gun restriction laws prevented people from defending themselves against the tyrannical government who arrested and killed one million people.
In 1994 Rwanda disarmed the Tutsi people and being unable to defend themselves one million were executed.

A hundred and twelve years ago, in 1907...our great grandparents were first able to buy the rifle pictured. The semi-auto Winchester Model 1907.
This is a gun they could buy from a Sears catalogue and have delivered via US Post. It was/ is a semi-automatic, high powered centerfire rifle, with detachable, high capacity magazine.
About 400,000 semi-automatic rifles were produced before WW2. Civilians had hundreds of thousands of these for 40 years, while US soldiers were still being issued old fashioned bolt action rifles.
The 1907 fired just as fast as an AR15 or AK47 and the bullet (.351 Winchester) was actually larger than those fired by the more modern looking weapons..
The ONLY functional difference between the 1907 and a controversial and much feared AR15 is the modern black plastic stock.
The semi auto, so-called "assault rifle" is 110 years old. It isnt new in any way.
The semi auto rifle was not a weapon of war. The government MADE IT a weapon of war 40 years after civilians had them.
The semi-auto can be safely owned by civilians. The proof is that literally 3 generations of adults owned and used them responsibly and no one ever even noticed.

This is a gun they could buy from a Sears catalogue and have delivered via US Post. It was/ is a semi-automatic, high powered centerfire rifle, with detachable, high capacity magazine.
About 400,000 semi-automatic rifles were produced before WW2. Civilians had hundreds of thousands of these for 40 years, while US soldiers were still being issued old fashioned bolt action rifles.
The 1907 fired just as fast as an AR15 or AK47 and the bullet (.351 Winchester) was actually larger than those fired by the more modern looking weapons..
The ONLY functional difference between the 1907 and a controversial and much feared AR15 is the modern black plastic stock.
The semi auto, so-called "assault rifle" is 110 years old. It isnt new in any way.
The semi auto rifle was not a weapon of war. The government MADE IT a weapon of war 40 years after civilians had them.
The semi-auto can be safely owned by civilians. The proof is that literally 3 generations of adults owned and used them responsibly and no one ever even noticed.

The 40k number easthome is spouting is all gun related death in the US, 2/3 of which is suicide. That is not unintentional nor accidental. Suicide is an on purpose, voluntary action, not an accident. The remaining third is homicide, and that is also an on purpose, voluntary action. Of the homicides, the majority are committed with handguns in the hands of urban males aged 16-29, with perpetrator and victim being racially homogeneous like 90% of the time.
Using the 1/3rd of that 40k for homicides, you arrive at ~13k. Round it up to 14k. now calculate that as a percentage against the 140 million gun owners in the US. What you arrive at is 1/100th of a percent of firearm owners in the US will commit a violent crime with a gun, and the other 99.99% (using the FBI/DOJ data here kids) are responsible gun owners.
Now, I don't know about you, but when 99.99% of the guns in America are never used for any sort of violence, and most of the violence is concentrated within a very specific age/geographic population, I'd say that guns themselves are not the issue, and that the very specific age/geographic population is where your concern should lie.
