The whole floor was like this.
There were some end joints less than an inch apart.
I should have gotten some more pics.
 
About 20 years .
They used cleats about every 12-18” apart. Most of the short boards only had 1 fastener in them.
There were tons of staples and pad chunks left on the floor.
Looks like they ripped up carpet/ pad and quickly covered the floor with rosin paper before anyone noticed.
The rosin paper was stapled down like carpet pad too.
This guy is definitely a sloppy joe 👎🏼
 
I did a Inspection one time where they skipped every other board with staples

And the boards they did nail had 1 or 2 staples in a 20" board ..
 
I always see flooring magazine covers with a pic on the front page of a hardwood floor that has an amazing stair step.
