My granddaughter has an IPad that she put a password on to get on it. She forgot the password. Is it now a boat anchor or is there a way to get around it?

What OS are you running ? XP, 7 , 10 ?
It can be restored to new settings.
You need to hook it up to a computer and connect to iTunes.
My wife has done it several times. I don’t know exactly what to do.
If you have an apple store near you they can do it for you.
Or you can call apple support and they can walk you through it
