I'm rehabbing an apartment which has loose lay sheet goods now. Would laminate be a good choice for holding up with tenants? How about repairing a damaged piece in the future, doable? I have had no experience with this material before.

I agree laminate flooring is good, it has a lot of advantages. I went for laminate flooring, when I was having my old living room renovated by a renovation company . It lasts for a long time and saves you money in the long run. They don’t fade in the sunlight and are resistant to stains, impacts and scratches. This type of flooring can be best for a DIYer because it is easy to install.

LVT(luxury vinyl tile) or LVP(luxury vinyl plank) would out last wood laminate 10 to 1. It's easier to install and waterproof. Shaw makes a great product and you can get it at Home Depot.
