Length of the engineered wood planks.

I chose a wood for my floors. It looks great but comes in random lengths. Because I am completely new to this, I am not sure what kind of effect this would have in my room. It is going all throughout the main living space and so there are parts where the wood will be laid long. I always thought all the planks should be the same length. But the wood is already here and I do like it, except for the fact that there are some small pieces... Longest is approx 4.65 feet long. Most are shorter than that.
So my main question is. How does the length of the planks affect the final product?
