I know luan is not an acceptable substrate, But today's installer does not realize that luan was a better product 30 years ago. It was certainly better than the other alternative, Masonite. Masonite had to be installed rough side up, adhesive would not stick to the smooth side.

I used Luan to patch my floor in my bathroom. It was over the plywood subfloor. I'm going to have to replace it bc of the botched self-leveling though. Stuff sure as hell stuck to the luan. LOL.

They have 3 here , one without a warranty, one $2.00 more with one that don't have all the voids in it , and Birtch..

40+ years in the business and I have absolutely no clue what Luan plywood is.
We have plywood here ...T&G, 1 1/8", 1" 3/4" 5/8", 1/2", 3/8", 1/4" plus some 1/4" flooring grade plywood.
Is Luan an east coast thing? Why is it different or inferior?
Yes we have 1/8" door skins and 1/4" 3 ply mahogany plywood.
