Need Ideas for vinyl floor

Ok, so let me start off, im a photographer and i use vinyl floors for background floors. They lay on top of commercial carpet and are interchanged ( Roll one up, roll another out). I have been having to replace them frequently because they seem to stretch out in the middle ( at least i think that's what is happening) and form a bubble in the middle if the floor. They are not adhered to anything. Would the solution be to put something under them and if so...what?

It will stretch out especially walking on it over a soft substrate like carpet. Grab some 1/4 in plywood.
