I never could figure out the "fasten the floor to the joists" unless you had no dang subfloor over the joists.
I looked at a fir over old fir today in the old part of town. Original fir nailed directly to joists with a crawlspace under it. The original fir floor was put in in around 1940. Resanded once. Pretty banged up floor. But she has new fir sittin in there. Has a evap cooler so I aint gonna intall the new over the old now. Pray to Jesus!
