Not very clever of us but we sanded the floor (a New Zealand hardwood) and used a water-based poly over the top with no sealers. Few hours later floor turned greenish and we learnt all about tannin pull the hard way.

The floor was then sanded back but the green is still there in the bare wood! Is there no point in sanding it back to try and remove the discolouration at this point?? Or would further sanding help?

In any case, without knowing much it seems like the only option now is to use a darker oil-based stain and hope the green doesn't pull through?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance
