Greetings from an American living in Denmark! I've worked with the massive (38mm) hardwood parquet tabletops available in builder's stores, for furniture, shelving, and, well, tables. Sometimes they're cheap, too. Is there any reason (s) why they couldn't be used as flooring? I know the full thickness of the wood would need some reduction in the form of grooves, but isn't a table/counter top just a large plank?
I've asked our local flooring guys, but they've never heard of anyone doing it. About the only flooring we have that is even close to that thick (oh, what a sound they make!) is the slow-growth douglas fir that is used to replace worn out flooring in some of the old castles here.
Thanks for your answers.

Well the substrate would have to be perfectly flat as well as the product.
I've heard of people using plywood sheets glued down sanded and finished.
Not sure how you would tongue an groove it.

You could double spline it with 1/4" slots
If the table tops were small enough, it would make an interesting parquet look.
Maybe fit the table tops into a 2X4 grid. Drill and plug the table tops a few inches in at all 4 corners................. OK, now it's getting, more expensive than flooring material.
