Hi all,

Before I install carpet, should I cut a gap between the subfloor and tile floor to make a good transition between them? The subfloor is higher than the tile, please see pictures. Thank you in advance.

Here's a side view of the casing and transition I'm thinking of.
If you left the 3/8 gap between the OSB and the tile, there would probably have to be tackstrip at the edge of the gap to hold the carpet. Once it's tucked into that gap. a tapered wood transition might look good and also protect the carpet edge. The wood transition piece could be installed first and then the carpet could be custom fit against it.
