Lots easier than methods I have used before. I had 4 doorways to shim up to some fir flooring. I needed to fit the carpet to a 1 inch height. I used 3/8 shims with a 3/32 shim added under the strip to get the ideal height.

The new flooring being installed is end grain old growth fir. It's for the owner of a local mill that only sells old growth wood products. Very neat looking stuff. It's not T&G. T&G wouldn't work with end grain. It's like cutting up 2x4s and 2x3s, in 3/4" slices using a chop saw and laying them flat. It comes in 3 foot strips held together with glue and has a thin aluminum wire inset into the long edges.
