I did these stairs over 25 years ago. On the corner of each stair is a bracket of some sort. The railing supports or spindles drop down over these brackets and get screwed into place. They have a contractor that's going to remove the railing. I'm trying to remember how many staples I put into each stair. 
Probably too many. The carpet is a short, cut pile. The original one is a Berber I don't know how many days it's going to take to do this one. My biggest concern is not having the railing on for a few days while I do the work.
