I am finally done with the reno of the first floor and moving to the stairs project that I posted about around here
I want to order the treads and I was wondering if I should order them longer and cut them to the exact size when I install them

I would definitely order them longer but how much is the question. I’m used to treads coming in standard sizes. 4’ unless you have wide assed stairs and you need to bump up to the next size, that’s what you order and what you get. So this question seems silly to me but it may not be to you. Either way I would never order treads net. You gotta have a little bit of fluff to account for off square walls n such.

Maybe you order your treads 4” bigger than what your net measurement is. This will give you plenty of fluff room to trim and trim again until you have it just right.
