I think when I came back here you said Lowdown says Hi, that might’ve been before my time but I had read some of his/your posts.
Yup, I remember you from there. Jerry Thomas was the first member on floor Pro and he shot me an email and I became member number two. Things changed, so I changed.

The site was kind of like a book with a cover and a bunch of blank pages. Since they were just a handful of titles and no comments or replies, it was really weird. I think guys were trying to find a way to escape the FCI site because Ernesto's buddy seem to like messing with people and hacking their passwords. FCI didn't really give a crap.
I immediately joined up after Jerry showed me the link. I asked him where are we? I don't remember his reply probably "I don't know"

That’s how I feel here, tfp had a lot of content at the end. Thought if it were on the internet it’s on forever. I would hope thousands join and input. Kinda like telling people to get the vaccine. My mom use to say “nobody listens”
Jim and the owner of this forum did not like each other. When Jim found out I was helping his enemy, he banned me.
Off topic, but every time I hear the word calculus, I think of this song (from a spoof boyband). I met the first one who was singing. He did carpentry and hosted a show called While You Were Out. He went to Tulane Uni and he visited the state many years ago and I met him at some event.
As an aside, he once wrote a partial account of the time he got kidnapped by Russians when he was in a boyband. He went over there to audition & they held him hostage, locked him in a windowless room with no clocks along with a few other guys and forced them to perform-- had them escorted around with heavily armed guards. He never got to the part of how he escaped.

I recall in the past seeing something labeled archived. I think something you couldn't reply to, but the data was still there.
Maybe it's still there but it costs money to keep it floating around. How would anybody know who to ask and how much it costs? Probably too much.
That is a lot of information to just disappear.
Jim was crafty and has his dns registry hidden (its not all that crafty) I was going to try and pursue acquiring the rights to the site, then remembered how impossible that would be this day in age and gave up before I got very far. I was scraping the site when news broke that Jimmy wasn't coming back but I did not have time to complete the process as it was a massive amount of data to scrape. Then there would have been the monumental task or reassembling it all, but I thought it would have been worth it. Unfortunate, I was robbed of the chance. Things being what they are, there is here now and most the people I enjoy are here.... and Rusty too 
This place is as good as another, its the people that make it. It isnt like any of us actually come here because we care about floors so much as we have people that will tolerate us

The physical act of layin floors ain’t that hard. I think the information you get from everybody here helps you build a philosophy of floor covering. Combine the philosophy with the actual layin of the floors and next thing you know you’re a master.
I can't imagine my life and my work staying in floor covering without the knowledge and the help from others on the internet. When every new product and every weird job comes your way, you can read the instructions and that get you pretty much there for average jobs. What it takes to master this trade comes from years and advice, not instructions. That's when you join a floor covering site on the internet. I remember the first time I discovered a floor covering forum.
Within 15 minutes of reading comments on the site, I got into my first argument.
Someone asked a question and I was reading responses there is a pissing match between two people and it wasn't helping the discussion. We've all seen that.
Hey, I just joined the site so I feel I should jump right in and put people in their place.
I replied you guys are acting like 5 year olds. Someone sent me a PM. He said: "do you know who that is?"
I said, I don't care who it is, the acting like 5 year olds and nobody's learning anything.
I don't recall who David Hunt was arguing with.....
But I've had David's phone number in my phone for 20 years now. I wouldn't have been able to do many of the jobs that I've done without his assistance.
I feel the same way about Daris, but I've never argued with him.
Floor laying can be "not that hard" sometimes, but nobody likes to give me those jobs.

Okay..... Two of the rooms were flops. Two-piece office with angled wall and a closet and of course the carpet here is patterned. Master bedroom is two pieces and has a larger angled wall. All rooms have one doorway that needs to be turned and tacked. Too funky shaped closets with angles and neither are bigger than 7 ft in either direction and those need to be turned intact plus a trapdoor.
Yep 50 miles out of town and I was told the job was going to be a piece of cake cuz three of the rooms are going to be flops.
I probably spent over two and a half hours vacuuming the powdery dirt out of the OSB. Especially so around the edges where vacuum might pull that dust up into the light colored carpet over time. I don't know how many times I went outside and knock the dirt out of the filter of my 16 gallon shop vac.
For a brand new house this is not what I was expecting.

I think the real difference between us old timers and some of the young guys is, if we run into something we have never seen before, we can figure it out. I would have to argue that fact. I've been installing on my own since I was 26 and frankly all I ever had was "figure it out on my own" no one taught me to heat weld, flash cove, any tile work... well just about everything other than pound smooth edge and install stairs, yet here I am.
Speaking of figuring it out.... this is fun.
