I'm no expert myself, but I also have permanent indentations on a piece of berber carpeting that I've tried for years to remove. I have tried pouring boiling water directly on the indentation, which helped quite a bit, but short of restretching or full replacement, I have no idea.
 
Nick, I tried ice cubes many times, but it didn't do a thing. I had two 100 pound chunks of marble that were holding up a 200 pound piece of glass, so I'm afraid it will be there until I bite the bullet and replace that old berber carpeting.
