Adding more scratch protectant to new Laminate?

So this has been bothering me for a while now. I see all these laminates with different types of protection like "ScratchGuard Advanced Finish" and "PergoMax!" but many of them can still scratch and dent easily.

Can you just buy a semi-cheap laminate, find out how to buy your own protection, and then apply multiple coats over the top once its installed?

Or apply even MORE protection to some already very tough pergo laminate and make it ridiculously strong? Whats stopping us from just repeating the same process as them?

Laminate is basically formica. Its a plastic type finish. I doubt if there are any products out there to enhance the finish.
