The only way to turn you phone "entirely off" is to remove the battery.
Otherwise it is still running on firmware in a reduced operational state.
That power button is a soft multifunction button that is controlled by the software.
The bottom line is that it functions in a manner similar to wake-on-lan.
It is relatively easy to remotely turn on a cell phone undetected by the user.
It is similar to a magic packet used to turn on a PC that is shut down.

Shhhh, I have tracking on my 16 year olds phone but he don't know it. Not the keylogger type, his actual place in town. Thank you Verizonwireless :D

If I recall correctly, when you sign in to your Google account, they ask for your cell phone number so that they can reach you to reset your password if you forget it.
I'm quite sure that's the only reason they ask for it. :D

My buddy that hunts my property is a State Cop. He actually puts a tracking device under his 2 boys car's to track everywhere they go. He suggested that for my son, I don't want to know where he goes!:D He then goes online to see everywhere the car has gone AND the speed of the car! I think it costs about $10 a month for the service and I don't remember the cost for the actual device.
