I saw some space junk turn into a fireball 20 years ago. Didn't know what I was watching till the news the following night. I think it was a rocked body. You could tell that it was falling apart. Little glowing things spewed off the larger part as the orange/red object constantly brightened and dimmed as it traveled through the sky. It was fairly low on the horizon and was heading from the southwest towards the east in slow motion.
I just got lucky that night as I stepped out onto the deck and out of the corner of my eye, there it was, slowly making its way across the sky. I thought it was a meteor. Had I stepped out 10 or 15 seconds later I would have missed it.
