Ran R kill, but Sophos still gets error 1606. It did allow AVG to run now. Waiting on the scan to finish.

This should let S Run for you .
Click on ?Start-Run, type ?regedit? (without the quotes) Navigate to this registry path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER --> Software --> Microsoft --> Windows --> Current Version --> Explorer --> User Shell Folders
Clear the key: Recent (right mouse click on the key/folder, choose ?Delete?) Close the Registry Editor and restart the computer.

Well I tried that. Now nothing will open on it. The desktop comes up, but nothing will open. Can't go get Sophos. Guess I will take it to this local guy and see if he can install W7 on it.

Did you try safe mode ? Even if we get this up and running , I would get 7 installed on it .
Finally got a page to load, took about 5 minutes. Still won't run Sophos. Just freezes. If I can get it to, I am going to run system restore.

I will try it when I get time. Today is grass cutting day, all three yards.
I guess I have done this before. The few that were on there are already turned off. It also kept freezing if I tried to use Firefox, so I deleted it and downloaded Chrome. Now it freezes with Chrome.
It only works with IE.
