Looks like they are hot wired into the electric . 
What would happen if they actually turned on some electricity in southern Africa? If those lines were hot, I can't imagine a transformer not blowing.
Especially after a good rain, if they have them down there.

Sunny as all getout today. No wind, no cold, just nice.
11:30 am the power goes off. Most of downtown was out. McDonalds, Wendy's Burger King, True value, all the gas stations, Safeway, Fred Meyers. I live 2 miles south of town and everyone out here lost power. Most of downtown, and the outskirts of town lost power and most everything closed up shop for the day.
About 6:30PM, the power is finally restored.
....................I heard it was a bird that did it.
I won't know till I see the news tomorrow. Not sure if it was an Angry Bird or a nice one.
