Blending in touch up stain

I need some help on this maple touch up. I was asked to come touch up this maple floor after the polyurethane had been applied. I don’t usually do stuff like this but I do have some experience with it but this has stumped me. The floor is only about a month old and was stained by a lady with something she had come up with. I have reached out to her but no one can get in touch with her for her to help us out. I sanded down to bare wood, water popped it, sanded again then vacuumed it. My stain is a really good match but where I have sanded is leaving a ring around the touch up. I have tried everything but can’t get it to go away. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Is it the stain that isn’t blending or the finish that isn’t blending. Got any pics??
