I wondered why the cove was very loose so I pushed the vinyl down with my fingers. Fits well into the ali doesn't it? Can't see any glue on the cove either
There was also the vinyl where it met the carpet. It would have been nice if the bar actually covered the edge of the vinyl
I won't to know how some guys can get away with things like this? :)

Yes, It is pretty scary what some installers get away with!!
I had a guy contract for us a while back who's coving always looked like this.
Difference was, he didn't get away with it most times.
I got called to have a look at one of his installations and discovered that....
He had done all his coving with:
1: No fillet (although he had created lovely looking floating coves that looked like they had fillet underneath)
2: No adhesive
He had even done nice neat external mitres that were just hanging there!!!
Needless to say I couldn't get the installer to go back so it was left up to me to fix it all.
