In October 96, I took this one. It's looking across a short section of the bay southwards a while before sunset.
All I can think of that would cause this would be very dense smoke that drifted off shore from a forest fire or controlled burn. Logging operators burn piles of slash from their logged off hillsides once the fire danger is low enough........ usually fall time of the year. The smoke usually stays high up and rarely bothers anything. It can create some intensified colors during a sunrise or sunset.
This one however, is so dense only the lower part of the sun is visible as it protrudes below the smoke.
Wow, I don't even recall taking this shot. Kinda fun to dig through this old stuff and test my memory skills. 98% of the time, even a 20 year old photo rekindles the same memories as if it was taken yesterday.
