I have to replace flooring on my boat. Everything is interior and rarely sees water. Existing is laminate sheeting (2400x1300mmx0.8mm) over three-ply over gelcoat. Job is about 5m2 in size.
I'm up to gluing the ply down to the gelcoat. Gelcoat is clean of the old adhesive and has had a light sand.
The old glue was a light brown in colour, is still quite flexible, and has notching marks. About 10 years old.
I have been told Sikabond 55(J) will do the job, but need to apply primer first to help grab the gelcoat. I'm hesitant to pay the extra dollars for the primer.
Any opinions? I need to get this correct the first time.
