Back when I was a pup my grandparents had a wafer type board[OSB] on the walls of their sunroom that was varnished. Looked good, we are talking the early 50's.

Weyerhauser made a 1/4" chip board underlayment called StructureWood back in the 90's???
After sanding I told more than one customer that they ought to just stain and finish it.
Like a normal wood floor, i think they suck without being covered to some degree with woven rugs.
I'm sure this would actually look pretty good too.

How could it be any worse than a 5 to 10 year floating floor
It's better. You can recoat it.
Knew a guy who owned a lumberyard in the 80s. He had varnished chipboard on his walls.
