laminate same direction as floorboards help

laying laminate boards in lounge this week. unfortunately direction i want it to go in is the mesame direction as the boards underneath.

i have 7mm fibreboard underlay. should i lay so me ply as extra support? if so what thickness and what are the appopriate fixings?
